Vicenza, the home of gold, will host the Golden Glass of Murano exhibition at Vicenzaoro September, the International Jewellery Show scheduled to take place at the Berici Exhibition Centre from 10 to 14 September 2021. The exhibition will feature 40 highly-prized pieces of glass and gold forged by some of the most important master glassmakers on the Venetian island. In the cases housed in the spaces set up in the Veneto Region exhibition area (connection Hall 6 – 7) there are necklaces, bracelets, earrings, glasses, plates and small decorative objects in Murano glass finely finished in gold leaf that tell of the centuries-old relationship that binds Murano goldsmithing and artistic craftsmanship, two banners of Made in Italy around the world.
The exhibition, organised by Consorzio Promovetro Murano with the contribution of the Veneto Region, involves 11 historic Murano companies: Albertini&Spezzamonte, Costantini Glassbeads, Esse 2, Gambaro&Tagliapietra, La Perla Veneziana, Manuela Zanvettori, Nicola Moretti, Panizzi, Seguso Gianni, Vetrate Artistiche Murano and Zanetti Murano. The initiative is part of the broader project Golden transparencies in the lagoon, promoted by the Veneto Region in agreement with the Venice-Rovigo Chamber of Commerce, and coordinated by Venicepromex – Agency for the internationalisation of the Veneto Chamber system and partners Gold & Silver Italian Group and Consorzio Promovetro Murano to enhance and spread awareness of the regional Vetro Artistico® Murano brand and to create a new synergy between two production sectors that are strongly representative of Veneto’s manufacturing tradition.
In parallel with the exhibition, a booklet has been produced dedicated to the main gold work carried out by Murano’s master glassmakers. The publication is accompanied by a video showing the most precious processes, which will be used by operators in the sector at international trade fairs and other promotional events.
“The institutional stand and the exhibition of glass works at Vicenzaoro September from 10 to 14 September 2021 summarise and represent the bond that has bound Murano glass and gold for hundreds of years. Our furnaces have been using it for the finest work since the 1500s and even today there are still many goldsmith companies that decide to collaborate with the master glassmakers to create unique jewellery that is appreciated all over the world,” said Luciano Gambaro, President of the Consorzio Promovetro Murano.
“The Italian and Venetian trade fair system is restarting, in presence, after the setback suffered in recent months due to the Covid19 pandemic. This is an injection of confidence for the regional economy if we consider that trade fair events enhance the value of the area hosting them, generating an overall induced revenue that is equal to at least 10 times the turnover of the sector. This is certainly the case with Vicenzaoro, which reopens the calendar of the most important promotional events on the national and international fair scene. In the fairgrounds of the capital of Vicenza, our Region will be present with two spearheads of the manufacturing sector: the gold and glass arts, some of the most direct and sought-after expressions of our Made in Italy and of which our cities, especially Venice with the island of Murano and Vicenza, boast a centuries-old tradition. It is an opportunity to celebrate know-how and craftsmanship, which are characteristic elements of our heritage, but also a new beginning to look to the future with confidence, starting again from our excellence and our roots,” said the Veneto Region’s Councillor for Tourism.
