A great festival, dedicated to the glass.

Murano (VE), Saturday 12th  and Sunday 13th July 2014, will be the first edition of MURANO GLASS MASTERS 2014. THE ISLE OF GLASS.

 

The initiative, promoted by the Consorzio Promovetro Murano, the association for the promotion and protection of Murano glass, in collaboration with main sponsor Hotel LaGare spa – a company which has been operating for years in real estate development, with special reference to prestigious residences and tourist sector – is the first festival where the protagonist will be the material that made the island of Murano famous all around the world. The festival is under the patronage of the Municipality of Venice, the Province of Venice, and in collaboration with the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia with the support of Venini.

 

The event aims to promote the ancient tradition of Murano glass, as well as protecting and promoting the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, established by the Regione del Veneto and managed by the Consortium Promovetro. It also aims to involve all categories of the island, from glassmakers to retailers, from restaurateurs to hotels, and to artists.

 

For the two-days of Murano Glass Masters numerous are the initiatives and events.

 

One of the key points of the event will be the Murano Glass Museum, exceptionally open, on the evening of 12th from 9 to 11 PM.

 

Here the exhibition L’Incanto del Vetro (The Enchantment of Glass), a selection of the most valuable artworks made in the furnaces of the Promovetro’s associated companies, and some of the  most important companies on the island, will take place. All companies are going to be gathered for an evening to celebrate the “muranese” glass art.

 

An important segment will be also dedicated to children. On the afternoon of Sunday, July 13th, the Murano Glass Museum will host workshops with master glassmakers, and “Bread, Glass and Jam” a convivial moment with a snack on the lawn.

 

In addition, for the entire weekend, some furnaces of the island will remain open to offer the public live demonstrations of glass processing; similarly, the stores will maintain an extended opening hours throughout Saturday evening. The Abate Zanetti School, centre for the teaching of the techniques and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic glass, will open its doors to present the best pieces from his collection, including those of the Murano Award.

 

Murano Glass Masters will involve the entire island, offering shows and concerts; among these, Glass in Music, a performances by Bluefield, who are going to play on July 12th, from 19 to 21 in Fondamenta dei Vetrai – with a pair of glass guitars created by Pietro e Riccardo Ferro.

and also at 10 pm the concert of Tenor Fabio Moresco, accompanied by piano

For the occasion, restaurateurs will offer a fix priced menù (25 €) with local specialities.

 

And more! On Saturday a series of guided visits to the basilica of SS. Maria e Donato and the Church of San Pietro Martire will be held. The churches will remain open on this special occasion (Saturdays from 8 pm to midnight; Sunday from 8.30 am to 7 pm).

 

Palazzo Da Mula is hosting the exhibition Carissima Gemma…, organized by the Association for the study and development of “Muranese” Culture in collaboration with the Municipality of Murano Consortum Promovetro. Until 20th July, a series of historic postcards with views of the island between 1899 and 1950 will be presented.

Exceptionally for Murano Glass Masters 2014, the exhibition will remain open on Saturday 12th July, from 10 am to 1pm and from 5 pm to 11pm; Sunday 13th July: from 10 am to 1pm  and from 3 pm to 6pm.
